This is very problematic. Alarming data from 1979 to 2024 shows sea surface temperatures reaching historic highs. Recent years have shattered all previous records, indicating a dire escalation in our climate crisis. This threatens vital marine ecosystems and our global climate stability. We need leadership in action now.

The image shows a graph titled "A year of record-breaking ocean temperatures, Daily average sea surface temperature, 1979-2024." It tracks daily average sea surface temperatures between the latitudes of 60 degrees North and 60 degrees South, from 1979 through 2024.

The graph features many lines: each grey line represents the sea surface temperature for one year from 1979 to 2022. The years 2023 and 2024 are highlighted in distinct colors. The 2023 line is in red, showing a consistent trend abo…

1. The speed with which the climate is now changing is faster than (almost) all scientists thought possible.
2. There is now zero prospect of holding the average temperature increase this century to below 1.5°C; even 2°C is beginning to slip out of reach. The vast majority of climate scientists know this, but rarely if ever give voice to this critically important reality.
3. At the same time, the vast majority of people still haven’t a clue about what’s going on – and what this means for them and everything they hold dear.
4. The current backlash against existing (already wholly inadequate) climate measures is also accelerating – and will cause considerable political damage in 2024. Those driving this backlash represent the same old climate denial that has been so damaging over so many years.
5. The science-based institutions on which we depend to address this crisis have comprehensively failed us. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is incapable of telling the whole truth about accelerating climate change; the Conference of the Parties (under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) has been co-opted by the fossil fuel lobby to the point of total corruption.
6. By not calling out these incontrovertible realities, mainstream scientists are at risk of becoming the new climate deniers."

I have #LongCOVID, so my body is fucked. It feels like it is slowly dying on me. But the deepest damage the ongoing pandemic has done to me personally, is that it has made me lose my last shred of hope in humanity. The decrease in solidarity and the increase in ableism that i experienced, either because it was directed towards myself or because i observed it all around, in society at large, has sent me into complete despair.
The social contract has been broken, when the weakest no longer get protected. Which opens up the path for fascism to spread. And neither the radical leftists nor the feminists, who usually write solidarity, antifascism, yadda yadda onto their flags, seem to make the connection.
Never before have i felt so lonely, so utterly desperate. There is not one chance in hell that we can tackle the even bigger issues, like the climate crisis, inequality or migration, when we have failed to mobilize in order to combat the organized abandonment and slow murder that has been unleashed during this pandemic against our chronically ill and disabled siblings.
The radical leftist project has failed.
Capitalism and fascism have won.
But way too few even notice this.
